There are four kinds of In-lab sleep studies, including:
EEG (Electroencephalogram
Is a test that detects electrical activity in your brain using small, flat metal discs (electrodes) attached to your scalp. Your brain cells communicate via electrical impulses and are active all the time, even when you're asleep. This activity shows up as wavy lines on an EEG recording, which is useful in diagnosing various medical conditions.
Routine EEG
Typically lasts 20-30 minutes. Routine EEG is normally used in clinical circumstances where short measurement is sufficient (for example, distinguishing epileptic seizure from other types of seizures or to evaluate coma).
Sometimes a routine EEG is not enough. This most often happens when there's need to record a patient while they are having a seizure. In these cases Long term EEG is being used. It means, the patient stays in the hospital for several days, while EEG is constantly being recorded. Normally EEG is synchronized with video and audio. A recording of an actual seizure offers valuable information about whether or not there is an epileptic seizure. Long term EEG is also the focus in the brain from where the seizure activity emanates
Longterm Video EEG
In lab study lasts 24 to 72 hours.
Ambulatory Video EEG
Hook ups at home lasting 24 to 72 hours.
Please be on time for your appointment. Due to the length of the setup and recording, if you arrive late, we will need to reschedule the appointment.
An EEG is a recording of the brain’s electrical activity. This is done by placing electrodes (small metal cups) on the head with paste or gel. There are no needles, nothing that sticks or hurts.
In order to achieve the best possible recording please follow the instructions for your procedure
